Pakistan went down to hosts Australia by 3-1 in their opening match of the Tri-series Hockey Tournament in Busselton on Thursday.
Pakistan started the match well against the World Champions, however, Australia which has recently won International Super Series Hockey 9s in Perth scored one goal late in the first half. But the green-shirts managed to pull equaliser early in the second half when captain Shakeel Abbasi made no mistake to convert a penalty shootout.
Australia displayed their supremacy when they scored two late goals to eventually record a formidable 3-1 triumph. Australia is in great form ahead of Champions Trophy, which would take place in New Zealand in December. The host has also recorded a massive 8-3 win over the third team India in the first match of the event.

  1. Even in regular hockey Pakistan hockey team can not match with the other teams. In Asia they loose and win,so it is like a flip of coin. But it is not acceptable to be defeated by the all other teams so consistently.Actually, consistency in loosing to all European, Australian continent and at times Latin American and African teams is so consistent that it is is shameful.Last year the team lost to Canada,South Africa,Belgium,France and all other higher ranked teams and PHF still has the audacity to claim that the team is number 6 in the World.PHF is full of shameless and characterless individuals.

    • mr warner..i would like to remind you about some of the records that Pakistan Hockey Team has established. we were the first team to win World cup, champions trophy. Pakistan has won world cup more than any other team in the world. we were dominant in this sports for 3-4 decades. Recently our performances haven’t been great but (if you are a sportsman) you should know that such slumps come to even the greatest. Just a few months back Pakistan won the Asian cup. so we are improving and most importantly if Pakistan stands currently at 6th rank (according to the rankings issued by IHF) it does mean something. And only a fool would complain against that. Before one puts a finger on someone else he/she should rectify themselves. its very much characterless to write comments such as yours.
