Petition seeks stay against pml-n’s rally

A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court to cancel the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) public rally scheduled for October 28 (tomorrow). The petitioner, Rana Abdul Hameed, contended that the Punjab government had made use of state machinery to make the PML-N rally a success, when the use of official staff and other articles for the political agendas of the party was a gross violation of the mandate given to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s government. The petitioner demanded the court restrain PML-N from
holding the rally in question, as a blatant misuse of authority had occurred in its organisation.
LHC ISSUES NOTICE TO PML-N MPA: Lahore High Court Justice Azmat Saeed Wednesday issued notice to PML-N Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Nighat Nasir on a petition filed by the MPA of the opposition party, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)’s Dr Faiza Asghir, alleging defamation by the respondent. The petitioner contended that MPA Nighat had leveled on her baseless and unfounded charges of corruption, adding that the allegations had damaged her reputation and soiled her good name and respect, besides inflicting serious mental torment. In order to repair losses incurred by the false charges, the petitioner demanded the respondent be required to pay MPA Faiza Rs 500 million in damages. The court issued notice to the respondent and required her to file reply to the petition by November 15.
