Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah has not fulfilled the promise he had made to the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) regarding allotment of ministries, said PML-F leader/CM’s Adviser on Special Education Imtiaz Sheikh on Wednesday.
Speaking at an emergency press conference at his office, Sheikh said PML-F members have accepted whatever ministries have been allotted to them only because party chief Pir Pagara has directed them to do so. Sheikh recently took over his new responsibilities as the CM’s Adviser on Special Education after the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership assured Pagara that new portfolios would be handed over to PML-F members.
F-League leaders and Members Provincial Assembly (MPAs) had to quit previous ministries after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) rejoined the government coalition and the MQM MPAs’ ministries were handed back to them. Responding to a question regarding rumours of replacing the CM with someone else, Sheikh said he has no such information, but if the ruling PPP makes such a decision, then President Asif Ali Zardari would consult with Pagara in this regard. Talking about some Information Technology (IT) projects, he said he has activated some important projects, including video conferencing, geographic information system, IT City, e-policing, frequency modulation radio and IT training.
He said he has also sent a summary for approval to the CM about linking the issuance of domicile and permanent residence certificates with the National Database and Registration Authority record for discouraging bogus entries. He also said he had planned to establish IT universities across Karachi and in other districts of the province, hoping that MQM’s ministers would continue working on these projects.
