The Board of Directors of Shifa International Hospitals Ltd on Tuesday announced the appointment of Dr Manzoor-ul-Haq Qazi as president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the hospital with an immediate effect.
According to a press release, Dr Qazi has been serving as medical director and consultant cardiologist since 1993. The position was vacant after the sad demise of Shifa’s founding president and CEO Dr Zaheer Ahmad, who passed away on October 07.
Dr has spent many years in Pakistan and the United States of America with a deep relationship within the healthcare community. A graduated from King Edward Medical College Lahore in 1971, Dr Qazi has extensive experience in hospital and health system management and leadership. Having served in Pakistani armed forces in early years of his career, he moved to USA in 1975 and held a number of senior management positions in leading hospitals for 18 years. He is also a fellow of American Board of Internal Medicine – Cardiology and remained a consultant cardiologist at Byrd Regional Hospital in Louisiana from 1984 to 1993. He was also a fellow of American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilisation Review. Dr Qazi, while at Byrd, also served as the president medical staff. Meanwhile, Consultant Radiation Oncologist Dr Muhammad Salim Khan has accepted the position of medical director. He has succeeded Dr. Manzoor H Qazi as head of the Department of Medical Staff Affair. He has been serving at SIH as consultant radiation oncologist since 1998. After graduating from Khyber Medical College Peshawar in 1971, Dr Khan did diploma in Medical Radio Therapy (DMRT) from England in 1979. He is a certified radiation oncologist with more than 32 years of experience. From 1975 up till now, he has been practicing as radiation oncologist in major hospitals and teaching in leading medical colleges and universities in different capacities in Pakistan, UK, Saudi Arabia, Canada and USA.
