Seven killed in Karachi after brief respite

Seven people were reportedly killed in the city on Tuesday as after a brief respite in targeted killings across the city since the Supreme Court took suo motu notice on Karachi violence, the law and order situation in the city is again returning to its earlier ugly state.
A man was gunned down by unidentified assailants near the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained until the filing of this report. Two bodies were found by police from the Hasan Brohi Goth in Surjani Town. Police said the deceased were relatives and may have been killed over a personal enmity.
The body of an unidentified man was recovered by police from a graveyard in Paposh Nagar. The deceased was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and was stated to have been tortured to death.
Another dead body of an unidentified man was recovered by police from a garbage drum under the FTC flyover within the jurisdictions of Brigade police station. The deceased had been brutally tortured and also shot in the head. Two pedestrians were killed and a policeman suffered bullet wounds when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a patrolling police mobile. The deceased was identified as Ali Ahmed Phulpoto and the injured constable as Tahir. After the incident, people blocked the main Korangi road by torching tyres. A heavy contingent of Rangers and police personnel later dispersed the protesters.
Meanwhile, two students of Dow University of Health Sciences suffered bullet wounds as unidentified attackers opened fire on them. Sajid and Iqrar were shifted to the JPMC and were stated to be in a stable condition.
FOUR KILLERS HELD: The police claimed to have arrested four target killers in search operations across the city. Special Investigation Unit launched a raid near the MCB ground in Jauharabad and arrested a suspect named Arsalan alias Mamoo while also recovering a weapon. The Crime Investigation Department arrested a suspect identified as Zaheer, who was said to be involved in killing two people. In another raid, two alleged target killers identified as Nauman alias Nomi and Naveed were detained near the Matric board office.
