Expressing displeasure over the absence of minister, finance secretary and chairman of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) from the meeting, the Special Committee of the Senate on Wednesday adjourned proceedings, warning that the matter would be raised in the Upper House if all three did not turn up in the next meeting of the committee. The committee meeting, held with Leader of the House in the Senate Nayyer Hussain Bukhari in the chair, discussed recruitments, appointments and inductions made in FBR during the last three years. The committee had been specially constituted by the House when some senators from smaller provinces had complained that the quota of their provinces was not observed.
The committee chairman said the finance minister and secretary and the FBR chairman were not present in the meeting and should have ensured their presence, as the agenda pertained to the FBR, which was a subsidiary organisation of the Finance Ministry. The members were also extremely angry over the attitude of FBR officials, as they had provided incomplete details of the recruitments. The committee directed FBR officials that all details of the jobs, their advertisements and numbers of the applicants and their domiciles be provided to the committee. The committee sought details from the FBR of all jobs below 16 grade, as above 16 were recruited by the Federal Public Service Commission.
