A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday seeking a restraining order against rallies of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Lahore on October 30 and 28 respectively. Petitioner Rana Azeem submitted that both political parties were increasing their political business by unlawfully hosting giant hoardings, boards and banners on city roads, disregarding rights and facilities of the masses.
The petitioner submitted that the PTI and PML-N had affixed billboards, banners, advertisement screens and placards on The Mall worth hundreds of thousands of rupees without paying a single penny to the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA). Azeem said that the parties did not even obtain prior permission from the PHA to affix hoardings and banners at roadsides and greenbelts all over the city.
He said that this act of the two parties amounted to serious violation of rules and law. The petitioner requested the court to order removal of all hoardings and banners from The Mall, as it was done without permission from PHA. Azeem also requested the court to order the PTI and PML-N not to hold rallies on the said date, as they failed to adhere to law.
