Government College University, (GCU) Lahore Philosophy Department on Tuesday organised a condolence reference in memory of Professor Shahid Hussain, a renowned philosopher and prolific writer, and paid tribute to the commendable services that he rendered during his 40-year stay at GCU.
GCU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Khaliqur Rehman chaired the reference. Speaking on the occasion, Khaliq said that Dr Shahid was a man of commitment and conviction and the university would follow the great traditions set by him as head of GCU Philosophy Department. Dr Mehdi Hassan said that Pakistan needed philosophers such as Shahid as, “We are living in cultural, ideological and philosophical vacuum.” He said that science was necessary for development of a country but social sciences and liberal arts were crucial for making a group of people a civilised nation.
