There have been more polio cases reported in the city this year than before showing that the last 108 polio eradication campaigns were unsuccessful, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Roshan Ali Shaikh said on Tuesday. “The 109th polio eradication campaign starting now will have 5,513 teams and 200 supervisors participating in it,” he said while chairing a meeting of town administrators at the Civic Centre.
The DCO said that poliovirus has been eliminated from the world except four countries including Pakistan. “If we do not work hard, we will suffer as a nation. In some areas of the city, residents are not allowing polio eradication teams to vaccine to their children.” Shaikh directed the officers to seek police’s help for making the campaign successful and remove “delusions” from the people’s minds about polio vaccination. “We must save our children from this disease,” he added.
