Careful planning coupled with investment in education and research is the secret to all the development in China,” said Aarish U Khan, the research analyst of the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), during a discussion organised by the institute here on Tuesday.
Khan shared his thoughts and experience with the research staff of IRS upon his return from a two-week “Know China” visit that had been organised by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Development (CPAPD).
He said that during his visit to the South China Agriculture University in Guangzhou, China, it was revealed to him that the university had received around $ 40 million for research in 2010-11.
Khan attributed the fast-paced economic growth of China to the careful economic planning of the government and institutions there. He told the audience that China had announced its 12th five-year plan in March 2011 and after a care evaluation of the progress on its targets in the first six months of the plan on indicators, such as control of inflation, creation of jobs, reduction in carbon-emission, and reforestation.
At the commencement of the discussion, IRS President Ashraf Azim also expressed his grief on the sad demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
Azim eulogised Begum Bhutto’s services for democracy, her party and the nation. The audience also offered Fateha for the departed soul.
