Politicians acknowledge Nusrat’s services

Political leaders acknowledge Nusrat Bhutto’s services for democracy and declared her to be a great mother and politician.
Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded Steering Committee Chairman and former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri said Nusrat was a brave and courageous woman, adding that she had made huge sacrifices for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and democracy and had participated in the Movement for Restoration (MRD) and campaigns of People’s democratic Alliance (PDA) and had been arrested many times for being a champion of democracy. Commemorating her struggle for the restoration of democracy, former foreign minister said that she broke the police siege and led the MRD rally in Lahore. On one occasion she attended the meeting of MRD held at his father, Mahmud Ali Kasuri’s residence by camouflaging in a veil and was even arrested there. Kasuri expressed his condolences to President Asif Ali zardari, Sanam Bhutto and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in separate messages and prayed for the eternal peace of her soul.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammed Iqbal Khan expressed his grief and sorrow over sad demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto. In a press statement issued here on Monday, he said with her death, a chapter of democratic struggle had closed. Nusrat, he said, waged almost a decade long political struggle for the revival of democracy, restoration of the constitution and upholding of fundamental rights of people during the country’s worst martial law.
Punjab PPP Finance Secretary Aurangzeb Barki paying tributes to her said it was Begum Nusrat Bhutto who laid the foundation of politics of reconciliation in the country and her sacrifices would never be forgotten.
