The Punjab agriculture department said that wheat sowing was underway on an area of 1,152,962 acres of land in rain-fed areas of the province to get its 805,213 tons production. Agriculture experts have advised the growers to properly prepare land for sowing wheat with the help of a drill that can increase 8 to 10 maund per acre production of the crop. Heavy loam soil should be ploughed twice while single plough was enough for light land, experts added.
Farmers asked to use harrow if rain occurs after 18 to 20 days of sowing as it would help in removing the weeds and keep the land wet for a long time.
