Former Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) IT consultant violated BISE rules by not informing the administration about his two sons appearing in intermediate part-1 examinations, Pakistan Today has learnt. BISE suspended former controller Syed Ejaz Hussain Naqvi and confirmed that Dr Majid Naeem had violated BISE rules and said the case was put before former chairman Dr Akram Kashmiri and an inquiry had been set up to prove the allegations. Although Punjab government cancelled the intermediate part one result but Dr Majid was impugned for keeping the BISE administration in dark. Dr Majid sons, Bilal Naeem and Absar Naeem appeared in intermediate part-1 examinations through BISE Lahore. Bilal and Absar’s results showed that they did well and that there were no errors in their results and that they could secure top positions if their results were not cancelled. Absar scored 442 marks while Bilal scored 436 marks out of 505 marks each. BISE officials are questioning the credibility of these results and whether Majid’s sons deserve the aforementioned marks.
That they secured good results raises the question whether Dr Majid was involved in nepotism, which if valid, needs to be addressed by BISE administration. An examinations official at BISE said the average of Majid’s sons’ marks proved Majid had tried to include them in the race of position holders. He said Majid had illegally increased their marks. He said the suspended controller had tried to take action against Majid but he was suspended by the Punjab chief minister (CM) even though he was not involved in issuance of erroneous results. He said BISE administration demanded Ejaz Naqvi’s restoration as the controller and that stern action should be taken against Majid.
ISF President Farukh Habib said if one could easily see that thousands of students without sources while protesting over their erroneous results were struggling with injustice while Majid’s sons were contesting for top positions. He said a criminal case should be registered against Majid as he did not inform the administration about his sons’ appearance in the examinations. After getting sacked from Punjab University for misappropriation, Majid’s corruption continued in the form of illegally increasing his sons’ marks, he added. He suggested that Majid should be tried in court for corruption as his suspension was not enough.
Majid said he was not tied to any board and had addressed a confidential letter to the Higher Education Department’s secretary when his sons were about to appear in the board examinations. He denied the allegations and said he could not be suspended as he was not an official employee but a consultant only. He defended his IT system and said a mafia operated in BISE Lahore which was responsible for the erroneous results.
