Doctors to get mandatory dengue training from Oct 26

On the direction of Punjab Chief Minister (CM), the Health Department has enhanced the capacity building and awareness programme for private practitioners and family physicians on dengue and shall begin a training programme in all medical colleges in Lahore on October 26 for them. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting presided by Punjab Secretary Health Jehanzeb Khan. The principals of Allama Iqbal Medical College, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, PGMI, SIMS, IPH, Institute of Child Health and VC King Edward Medical University, Commissioner, CCPO and DCO Lahore, Addl. Secretary Information & Culture Department, President Family Physicians and General Practitioners Association and senior officers of Health Department attended the meeting. The meeting decided that consultative meetings would be organised on October 25 at local level in different areas during which family physicians and general practitioners will be informed on the training schedule. Senior doctors of teaching hospitals will deliver the lectures on dengue. The meeting decided the training programme will be held in all medical colleges of Lahore and private practitioners will be free to choose a nearby medical college. The doctors will registered themselves during the consultative meetings. Addressing the meeting, the Secretary Health said the main objective to hold training programme for GPs and family physicians was to enhance their professional capability to treat dengue patients at local level. He said that under the dengue control regulations 2011, it was mandatory for every doctor to get trained.
