The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has pleaded to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve Rs 1.76 per unit hike in power tariff, media reported on Tuesday.
NEPRA authorities said the tariff hike was sought for fuel adjustments in September, adding that lifeline consumers would be exempted from the proposed increase.
In a writ petition, CPPA contended that last month it faced a decline in power production through wind power houses and natural gas, therefore, electricity would now be produced by furnace oil to adjust the overall production.
CPPA’s petition will be taken up next week for hearing.
It is pertinent to mention here that NEPRA has already approved Rs 3.40 per unit hike for August.
