Silence over unwanted advertisement

Publicity and political banners and posters at almost every corner of the federal capital have turned it to a banners city and are damaging its beauty while authorities are keeping mum over this situation. There are a lot of banners which are still there while the purpose of their hoisting has long been fulfilled. Banners are still seen announcing certain events that have passed. These days one can see a host of banners heralding coming festivals and donation campaign with appeals for sacrificial hides. Businessmen and traders use banners as part of their advertisement campaign without considering that they damage the natural beauty of the city. It is unfortunate to see banners still hanging there, featuring “good news” of last years’ “loot sale.” During a survey conducted by this scribe, it was observed that the city administration has turned a blind eye towards the mushrooming advertisement banners and hoardings in the city and the trend seems to continue unabated. Another unfortunate fact is the absences of rules that can contain the number of advertisement banners and hoardings to be installed in the city. A CDA spokesman, when asked, said the civic agency was well aware of the issue and had taken stern action against the violators in the past. He said that CDA would soon form a strategy to tackle the issue.
