The countrywide National Immunisation Campaign against Polio will commence today (Monday) and more than 16 million children of up to 5 years of age are to be administered polio vaccine drops. A Punjab health department spokesperson said the three-day anti-polio campaign would continue until October 26. He further said children from 6 months to 5 years of age would also be given a dose of vitamin A. He said 31,960 mobile teams had been constituted that would go from door to door for this purpose.
The services of motorway police had been obtained for the administration of polio drops and vaccination teams had been deputed on motorway interchanges and toll plazas to make sure children who were travelling were vaccinated as well, he added. The spokesperson said the facility had been made available in all teaching as well as DHQ/THQ hospitals, health centres and dispensaries across the province. He said the vaccination teams had been deputed at railway stations, bus terminals and city exits to administer polio drops. The health department requested parents to get their children vaccinated in order to protect them from permanent disability.
