In one of his most direct assaults against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) yet, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was under tremendous pressure because of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan’s growing popularity in Punjab.
He told reporters at the residence of PML-Quaid President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that the PML-N would have to face the direct threat of PTI in Punjab in the next general elections. He advised the PML-N to concentrate on serving the people by improving its performance. He said holding demonstrations like the “Go Zardari Go” rally was unconstitutional and an attempt to disgrace the mandate of parliament, since President Asif Ali Zardari was an elected president.
The PM said it was confusing why the PML-N was bent on unconstitutional steps when constitutional options were available to it, and added that the party should exhibit political maturity. Gilani said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should keep Punjab in mainstream politics, but his actions were isolating the province politically.

  1. Gilani is right. PML-N is worried because PTI is going to dent its vote-bank. Though PTI will not secure enough votes for itself, but popular votes it gets have the potential of serious damage to PML-N. Similarly, if MQM also manages to show-up in Punjab, it is also going to adversely affect PML-N. PPP, PML-Q and MQM must ensure sensible seat adjustment. If they do so, PML-N will be cut to size and come out as a small Punjabi party.

  2. First of all happy to hear two of the biggest parties talking about Imran Khan's popularity. That is positive indeed. It will be a dream come true when i see these Sharif brothers getting kicked out into Afghanistan where they actually belong and let Punjab be ruled by modern, literate and enlightened. and @Shahid Malik … please do not talk about MQM here, Punjab will never let them in no matter how hard they try, Punjabis are by far the most peaceful of all and MQM does not belong here.

  3. gilani sahab…….. iss khushfehmi may naa baithain kay zardari ko nahin chera ga imran khan…. Mian sab kay baad agli baari zardari ki hai…. HAKUMAT HATAO MULK BACHAO……….

  4. Imran Khan the real deal…. insh'Allah this is his time, and he will not dissapoint, Nawaz Sharif has not delivered anything in Punjab, PML Q the chaudries at least done some good in punjab and punjab was in a better state…. Nawaz Sharif and Shabaz Sharif should go back Saudi or London permenantly….

  5. PTI all the way!! however, how about a shout out for a debate on national issues between the leaders of the major political parties, instead of empty slogans and propaganda all around to confuse everyone? I can see imran khan kicking some big status quo arse!

  6. great idea, but that will never happen., as we all know that Mr. Sugar Mills and Mr. 10%, though both very creative in corruption and cheap politics, are completely illiterate and have no dame clue about the policy making and good governance. Further, they have no desire to serve the people or they have any vision to offer. They are here only to rule. Therefore, they can't even hold an argument except their rants in the public procession where masses are gathered on the promises of a biryani plate!. And yes, every political worker knows it.

  7. PPP has this khusfehmi that PTI will not bother them in election but surely elections will be dhamaka for all the them. PTI will rule inshaAllah

  8. Many political analyst expressing opinion that PTI will distribute anti-PPP or right wing vote and it will help PPP to come again in Government. Similarly, the PML-N is also fearing people that if you dont vote PML-N, Zardari will come again so dont distribute anti-PPP vote bank by giving to PTI.

However, my analysis in this regard is quite different. Since 1988, we have seen many general elections and with frequency and short interval. In these elections we have seen that always the opposition party wins due to the poor performance of party in government. The reason is quite obvious, for e.g. the election of 1997, due to the poor performance of PPP led government, the PML-N wins majority due to following composition:

    1) PML-N die hard voters + Floating voters shift from PPP to PML-N + PPP die hard voters do not turn up to vote because discouragement and PPP die hard voter never vote PML-N because of old rivalry.

Now, in coming elections, PTI will enjoy the support of voters as per following composition:

    1) PTI die hard voters + Floating voters shift from PPP to PTI (as PPP voter will be comfortable to support other rather than Muslim League plus the performance of Punjab Government) + Few PPP die hard voters who do not vote Muslim league in any case, will prefer to vote PTI instead sitting at home.

I recommend the anti-PPP voters to vote PTI, as PML-N will distribute the anti-PPP vote bank and hence helps PPP to re-elect.

PTI will be denting PPP,so this perception is wrong that PTI will only dent PML. See below link:
