HCC holds orientation ceremony

Punjab University (PU) Hailey College of Commerce (HCC) organised an orientation ceremony on Sunday, presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran. Addressing the gathering, Dr Kamran said Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the only national leader who recognised the importance of education and that education was important to survive in the world respectfully. Shedding light upon Punjab University’s academic developments, he said PU was spending 4 million in 2007 on research projects while in the past three years, the amount had been increased to over 70 million, which spoke volumes about the research activity in the university. He said in 2007, the number of research publications was 162 and after a span of three years, it had increased to 352. He said after 2007, the number of PhDs graduating from the university per year had increased from 41 to more than a 100.
He said the number of books published by faculty members had increased from 27 to 65 books in three years. Only 29 percent of faculty members were holding PhDs before but now over 39 percent of faculty members held PhD degrees, he added. Welcoming the gathering, Principal Hailey College of Commerce Dr Liaqat Ali shed light upon the college history and informed students about the academic progress of HCC. HCC performed various tableaus which enthralled the audience after addresses. PU Dean Faculty of Commerce Prof Dr Ehsan Malik, Principal Hailey College of Commerce Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, faculty members, a large number of students and their parents participated in the ceremony.
CONFERENCE: PU will organise a 2-day international conference on Pakistan: Challenges to Democracy, Governance and National Unity on Monday at 9.50pm at University Law College. Dr Mujahid Kamran will inaugurate the session while international thinkers will participate in the event.
