Anti-encroachment drive in Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi Traffic Police have started an anti-encroachment drive under which special operations would be conducted in collaboration with other departments including Tehsil Municipal Administration, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Chaklala Cantonment Board In this regard, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) SSP Ghulam Abbas Tarrar has been given additional charge for the drive. The joint campaign of various departments would a take stern action to remove encroachments from city for a smooth flow of traffic. The CTO said Monday that encroachments were the main hurdle in the smooth flow of traffic on city roads which would be removed at all costs to ensure better traffic movement on those roads.
He said without the removal of encroachments, increasing traffic problems could not be solved and other traffic related issues might not be addressed properly. Tarrar said that all-out efforts would be made to remove encroachments so that citizens particularly motorists could be facilitated on roads. He said reports on daily basis would be maintained during the drive. Meanwhile, he said, special arrangements had also been made to control the traffic jams in the town. Wrong parking of vehicles on the city roads was being checked and negligence on part of traffic police officials would not be tolerated, he said, adding that the citizens should also cooperate with the traffic police to ensure solution to traffic-related problems.
Under the traffic plan devised for the regular traffic flow, the traffic police officers have been told to take action against violators of traffic rules in accordance with the law and keep a vigilant eye on suspicious vehicles. He said traffic wardens had also been told to work with dedication and commitment to ensure smooth traffic flow so that traffic mess particularly on congested roads might be averted.
