The Upper House of parliament will meet tomorrow (Monday) at the National Assembly Hall, with a long list of agenda items on the Order of the Day, including introduction of bills from the senators and commenced resolutions that would lead to debate on loans written off by the government departments, banks and financial institutions, the authority to allot government accommodations on out of turn basis and reforms in FCR.
This would be the 74th session of the Senate. The senators would meet at the National Assembly Hall at 4pm as the Senate Hall has been shut due to maintenance. A new sound system is being installed that would take a considerable time and in the meantime, the Senate sessions would be held at the adjoining National Assembly Hall, a source in the Parliament House. According to the Order of the Day for Monday, which will be a Private Members’ Day, Saleem Saifullah Khan will introduce The Victims of Natural Calamities (Rehabilitation and Financial Assistance) Bill, 2010 to provide for the rehabilitation and financial assistance to the victims of natural calamities.
Prof Khurshid Ahmed will introduce The Journalists Protection and Welfare Bill, 2011 to provide protection, security and relief to the journalists. The other bills to be introduced by the senators include, The Service Tribunals (Amendment) Bill, 2011, The Right to Free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2011, The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2010 and The Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2010 (Amendment of Article 248).
