The alleged illegal appointments of officials in BPS-2 to BPS-19 made by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) were challenged in the same court on Saturday. A petition to this effect was filed by Anila Zeeshan through her counsel Raja Sami-Ul-Haq.
The petitioner told the court about 40 administrative posts of BPS-2 to BPS-19 in the IHC were filled allegedly. “It was shocking to see that the appointments on such important posts were made without any advertisements. The whole process of interviews and other formalities was blatantly violated,” the petitioner said. The petitioner contended that the recent appointments were tantamount to putting extra financial resources of the IHC.
The petitioner cited the names of the “illegal”: appointees mentioned including Research and Reference Officer Usman Quddus, Deputy Registrar S M Tariq Channa, Deputy Registrar (BPS-19) Imtiaz Ahmad, Assistant Registrar Mohammad Kashif, Private Secretary Mohammad Azam, Staff Officers Naveed Hussain and Zahoor,
Reader Asim Hafeez, Assistant Registrar (BPS-18) Sufyan Ahmad, Stenographer Shafqat Khan, Assistant Account Officer Waheed Nawaz, PA Amir Abdul Majeed and Data Processing Officers (BPS-17) Yasir Altaf and Shakeel Raza.
The respondents of the case include the federal government, Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, the accountant general of Pakistan (Revenue), the Pakistan Printing Corporation managing director, the finance sectary and the IHC registrar.
The IHC accepted the petition for hearing and fixed 26 October 26 as date of the first hearing.
acquittal pleas of Pervez Ashraf, Naheed rejected: A civil court in Rawalpindi on Saturday rejected the acquittal pleas of PPP MNAs Raja Pervez Ashraf and Naheed Khan for their alleged involvement in creating rumpus in the compound of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench in 1998.
Civil Judge Muhammad Akram resumed the hearing of case in which other PPP leaders, including Shahzada Kausar, are nominated.
During the course of hearing, the counsels for Pervez Ashraf, Naheed Khan and Shabbir Ahmed filed acquittal pleas. But the court rejected the pleas of Pervez Ashraf and Naheed Khan; however, it acquitted Shabbir Ahmed.
The judge completed proceeding to declare Shahzada Kausar as a proclaimed offender and she was given a 30-day period to appear before the court. A case against the PPP leaders was registered with the Airport Police Station in 1998 for creating rumpus and for quarrelling with the LHC registrar in the LHC building during the hearing of a corruption case against late Benazir Bhutto. Currently, all the people involved in the said case are on bail.
