‘Forget development without free media’

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that no civilised society can develop without the existence of free media, for which the Pakistan People’s Party has played its part.
He said this during a meeting with the office-bearers of press clubs of Hyderabad and Nangarparkar, where he also handed over a cheque of Rs 1 million and Rs 300,000 to the to the office bearers of Hyderabad and Nangarparkar press clubs, respectively.
The media delegation comprised Hyderabad Press Club’s President Jaffar Memon, General Secretary Altaf Koti, Vice President Farhan Afandi and cashier Mansoor Marri; whereas Nangarparkar Press Club’s President Aslam Khoso, General Secretary Nasrullah Sammu, Vice President Qurban Koso, Secretary Shabbir Ahmed and cashier Jendo Faqeer were also present in the meeting.
“The government strongly believes in the freedom of media and is aware of the problems being faced by journalists. We are our utmost to repair press club buildings across Sindh and equip them with necessary equipment,” Memon said. Terming the implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award success of democracy and journalism, the provincial information minister requested the journalists to convey the truth to masses in a responsible way and carry out their duties professionally.
“The journalists would have to be accountable for their acts. Democracy and journalism cannot be separated from each other.” He said that President Asif Ali Zardari was doing his best to equip the media with the necessary instruments, for which everyone will have to work together.
