Law enforcement agencies on Friday detained several officials of the Passports and Immigration Department, including a section officer of the Ministry of Interior and others who were allegedly involved in issuing Indian visas without completing codal formalities. The action was taken on credible information received by the Interior Ministry regarding the involvement of some of the officials of Foreigners Registration Branch Karachi, FIA checkpost Wahga Border Lahore, Karachi Saddar Passport Office, a section officer of the Interior Ministry and few agents in issuance of Indian visa without completing codal formalities.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik took serious notice of the report and ordered a raid on the people involved in the malpractice. During the raids, all relevant record was seized and was now being scrutinised. Those apprehended include Sub-Inspector Khursheed, Superintendent of Police Naseem Usmani, Malik Shabbir of the FIA Wahga checkpost, the section officer of the ministry of interior and five officials of the Karachi Saddar Passport Office.
