Sardar Murad intercepts Rehmans stride in Punjab Golf

Sardar Murad of Gymkhana managed to stun M. Rehman of Royal Palm by rattling him through a very steady performance, and going into the final round managed to get hold of the top slot in the 30th Al Baraka Punjab Amateur Golf Championship at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course. All through the second round Sardar Murad was superior in terms of consistency looking extremely super on 14 of the eighteen holes, three of which he birdied and eleven of them he parred demonstrating excellent shot making backed by stylish putting. The bogies were there too on four holes but birdies washed out any damaging disadvantage. The youthful M. Rehman did make a real match of it on the first nine holes but certainly lost concentration on the back nine giving in to the pressure and losing strokes through a double bogie on the 14th and a bogie along the way. As things stand it appears to be a great fight on the final day. The third position holder, Mubraiz Ahmed is far away at an aggregate of 154, eight strokes behind Sardar Murad and will be an onlooker on the final day. In the net category Asim Bucha is looking too dominant way ahead of his challengers. And in the seniors section the former hockey Olympian Qayum Rashid totally dominated the proceedings through some youthful hitting and no nerves. Another senior AVM Zakaullah brushed aside all opposition to win the net prize with a brilliant score of net 63. Amongst the ladies Kara Alam, a teenager of Lahore American, showed her guts and ability to move up front in the net section with a net score of 66 although her mother’s presence on the golf course during the closing holes unsettled her. Ghazala Yasmin was dominant in the gross section.
