Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir’s guards caused citizens inconvenience and misbehaved with them at 15/Plaza Chowk on Friday in order to make way for the CCPO who was stuck in a traffic jam for 25 minutes. As per details, the CCPO’s convoy was heading towards his office located on Queens Road at around 12pm. As the convoy reached 15/Plaza Chowk, the convoy got struck in traffic because of the Lady Health Workers’ protest at Chairing Cross. Eye witnesses told Pakistan Today that Elite Force Jawans, deployed for CCPO’s protection, cordoned his vehicle and started abusing people who were stuck in traffic in order to get the road cleared for the CCPO’s vehicle.
Eye witnesses claimed that the CCPO remained struck for about 25 minutes and his guards kept on misbehaving with the locals. “The Elite Force usurps out right to life; that is what their misbehaving with us meant”, said a motorcyclist Sohail. He said the citizens were speechless and had no idea why the guards were misbehaving with them. Sohail said all citizens without discrimination were stuck in traffic but the top cop’s guards wanted the coast clear for their boss. He said citizens could not retaliate as they were scared of the armed guards. A commuter, Ashraf, who was also stuck in traffic, said the incident was not new for him as anyone with a protocol got restless to reach his/her destination. He said the city cowers at the sight of policemen who were violating their basic rights time and again. Another motorcyclist, Ahmed, said there was only one traffic warden deployed at 15/Plaza Chowk before but upon sighting the CCPO, three traffic wardens appeared out of nowhere. He said the wardens started diverting the traffic and made way for the CCPO at the expense of others’ rights. CCPO’s sponkesman, Rai Nazar Hayat, was unavailable for comments over the issue..
