The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued Friday notice to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources in the power tariff hike case.
Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan resumed hearing of the case filed by a lawyer challenging the recent hike of Rs3.04 in electricity tariff.
The petitioner M Kokab contended that by raising electricity price, the government was violating the Article-9 of the constitution that bound the government to provide people with basic rights, which he said the government was snatching.
He said that recent increase in the power tariff would badly affect the prices of edible items, which had already gone beyond the reach of the poor masses.
Upon this, Justice Riaz Ahmed issued a notice to Ministry of Petroleum to seek their stance and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
