Former president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Ehsan Mani has criticised the appointment procedure in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). “The appointment procedure of a chairman in the PCB is not transparent,” Mani was quoted by a website. Pakistan must end this practice as it does not follow a proper procedure,” he added. The former ICC President was of the view that PCB’s governing body and regional cricket associations should have an authority to shortlist candidates for the post.
President Zardari has the authority to appoint a chairman in the PCB. Zardari this month appointed Zaka Ashraf, a banker and industrialist, as the chairman of the PCB. Mani said that PCB chairman should have a background of the game and should have good administrative skills. He stressed the need of evolving a system to hold PCB chairman accountable during his tenure. The former President of the ICC advised PCB to appoint a Chief Executive to make matters transparent. Speaking about the new PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, Mani said Zaka Asharf should be spared from criticism for a year as he has to sort out many international issues which surfaced during the tenure of Ijaz Butt.
