Taufeeq Umar’s maiden hundred against Sri Lanka

Taufeeq Umar scored his maiden century against Sri Lanka in Test cricket by making an unbeaten 109 off 296 balls with eight fours in his team’s first innings against Sri Lanka at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on Wednesday (October 19).
Taufeeq Umar’s first century against Sri Lanka came in the third innings of second Test match. Overall, it was his sixth hundred in 61 innings of 33 Test matches.
The left-hand opening batsman’s previous highest against the Islanders was 19 at Lahore in 2001-02. The 30-year old from Lahore, also became the 19th Pakistani batsman on 32nd occasion to score a century against Sri Lanka in Tests.

Azhar Ali’s unbeaten 60 was his maiden fifty in the first innings against Sri Lanka. It was his 10th half century in 26 innings of 14 Test matches.

Taufeeq Umar and Mohammed Hafeez’s 118-run stand was the sixth century stand for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in Tests for the opening wicket in Tests while Taufeeq Umar and Azhar Ali’s 141 runs undefeated stand was the eighth century stand for the second wicket.

Taufeeq Umar put on 118 runs with Mohammed Hafeez for the opening wicket and 141 runs with Azhar Ali for the undefeated second wicket stand. It was first time in 38 Test match when more than 100 runs were added for the first two wickets for Pakistan against Sri Lanka. Pakistan never lost a Test match against Sri Lanka after their openers put on more than 100 runs. They won two and drew three Tests before this Test match.
