Riaz wants commission to probe Punjab govt’s corruption

Punjab Opposition Leader Raja Riaz on Wednesday demanded the formation of a judicial commission to probe into the Punjab government’s corruption. He was talking to journalists at his Punjab Assembly (PA) chamber. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Zikriya Butt and PPP Punjab Deputy Parliamentary Leader Shaukat Basra were also present. Riaz urged the Supreme Court (SC) to take suo motu notice of corruption and incompetence of the Sharif brothers. He said that the PPP was expecting a fair decision from the SC in the Shahbaz Sharif ineligibility case.
The PPP leader said that the party had sent a communiqué to the Interior Ministry requesting an investigation into the Punjab government’s embezzlements. He said that through the communiqué, Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik was urged to conduct investigation through a judicial commission into corruption of the provincial government in seven different projects, including the Sasti Roti Scheme, Food Stamp Scheme, Yellow Cab Scheme, Ashiyana Housing Scheme, purchase of medicines to eliminate dengue and granting contracts for medicine to favourites by violating rules and regulations and financial embezzlement of public money. Riaz said that if a judicial commission on corruption of the Punjab government was not constituted, the PPP would seek courts’ help.
