Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said the political heat created in the country was untimely and uncalled for. “We need more stability in the country and we have to strengthen the economy as people expect us to exhibit more political maturity,” he said while talking to reporters at the inauguration of 6th Expo Pakistan 2011 at the Sindh Governor’s House. He said that the nation was not ready to accept any unconstitutional step like national government, as similar drama had been repeated several times in the past.
“The nation is now more sensible and will not accept any unconstitutional act,” he added. To a question regarding the US, he said Pakistanis were a sensible nation and a sensible leadership was at the helm of affairs in the country, adding that the defence of the country was in safe hands. Earlier during a call-on by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Gilani welcomed the MQM’s decision to rejoin the government, saying it would help bring normalcy to the city.

  1. @ Sameed—If this is the leadership, men like Zardari, Gillani, Ebad, than God save Pakistan. We don't need enemies, to destroy our country. It has been inflicted so much damage from within, by crooks and dictators, that we are without electricity, our people have no faith in the government, and there is neither security of life, honor or property in Pakistan of today. The fruits of democracy are justice, progress, accountability, welfare of people, not welfare of ruling elite. Democracy will survive only if there is some semblance of governance and the writ of law, which is not there at the moment. Change for the better is what we need, not any adventurism by khakis.

  2. Sharifs are suffering from Senate Syndrome. They are bound to lose Senate elections. And if they manage to disrupt things to such an extent that Senate elections are not possible in March 2012, then we should be prepared for the collapse of democracy for at least ten years. By then, Nawaz will be in his 70s.
