Even after issuing a 24-hour deadline, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has not taken any action against the appointment of National Accountability Chairman Admiral (r) Fasih Bukhari amid rumours that the party leadership might just let go of the ‘weightless’ issue all together.
Addressing reporters outside the parliament on Monday, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Ch Nisar announced that PML-N would decide in 24 hours as to when the court will be approached against appointment of chairman NAB. However, PML-N Secretary Information Mushahid Ullah Khan dispelled all such impressions and spelt out the party’s firm stance to move the court. He said PML-N had not changed its mind. But, it had delayed the step for some days, he said. “We will make in-depth deliberations with team of lawyers and prepare a strong case to reap desired results,” Mushahid revealed. He said the appointment of NAB chairman was entangled willfully as PPP-led coalition government did not want NAB working properly. He said PM Yousaf Raza Gilani ‘informed’ the opposition leader instead of ‘consulting’ with him on the appointment which showed malafide attention, so much so that even the chief justice of Pakistan was also not taken into confidence, he added. “If we remain silent, it would leave a negative precedent so PML-N will play its constitutional role,” he said. PML-N senator Pervaiz Rashid also denied flexibility on the issue, saying PML-N had started consulting lawyers to file the case in betting manner.
