The city government has decided to bring more animals to the city’s zoo and construct 20 new public toilets in its premises to facilitate visitors.
The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) will also plant more than 0.1 million trees in the Safari Park.
“These measures are part of the improvement plan for two of the major recreational locations in the city,” said Executive District Officer (EDO) Community Development Matanat Ali Khan during his visit to the Safari Park on Wednesday. “The city government is making efforts to provide better and standardised amusement facilities to citizens.”
The EDO said that despite limited resources, the city government is doing its best to improve the standard of recreation facilities in the city. “However, this can be managed in a better way if the private sector participates in these efforts as well.”
The EDO pointed out that safari parks in different countries serve as good recreational places and also provide knowledge about wildlife. “The city’s Safari Park should also be transformed into a real safari spot.”
Khan directed the Safari Park administration to come up with suggestions to improve the standard of the park. He said that the city government will also contact the Parks and Horticulture Department and non-governmental organisations to make this possible.
The EDO said that measures to beautify Karachi zoo are also under way and assistance will be sought from the private sector increase public lavatories in the zoo and buy more animals for it.
