Making a mockery of the tall claims made by the law enforcement agencies about the tight security measures adopted for the red zone in the federal capital, a car thief on Wednesday not only entered the sensitive area while in possession of a pistol but also managed to unlock a car parked in the Supreme Court buildings parking space.
But before he could run away with the stolen car, the owner raised a hue and cry to attract the attention of people and policemen present there. The red zone is considered as one of the most protected areas of the city, where important offices including the Parliament House, Supreme Court, PM’s House and Election Commission are situated.
According to details, the car thief, identified as Muhammad Asrar a residence of Mardan, was caught red handed while stealing a Honda City (LED 2908) by the car owner. He was about to leave the area after unlocking the car when he was spotted. Eyewitness said the uproar made by the car owner police arrested the car lifter and recovered a number of master keys and a 30 bore pistol from him. The criminal shifted to Secretariat Police Station.
When contacted, a spokesman for the Islamabad Police said, “It was the prompt action by police which resulted in the arrest.” He said an FIR had been registered against the car thief for trying to stole car and having an unlicensed pistol.
