A possible terrorist attack at a hospital in Gulistan-e-Jauhar was averted on Wednesday when a 25-kilogramme bomb planted in a car was defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). The police were informed about a suspicious car in the parking lot of the Darul Sehat (Trust) Hospital in Block-14, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The law enforcers reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The BDS was called in to recover the bomb that was successfully deactivated. “The bomb weighed about 25 kg and may have wreaked destruction around 500-metre radius,” a BDS member said. Insiders told Pakistan Today that the police have also arrested two suspects from the spot and shifted them to an undisclosed location.
BANK ROBBED: Unidentified bandits robbed Rs 4.2 million from a private bank branch at the Rashid Minhas Road on Wednesday. Police said that four armed men entered the bank and held the staff and customers hostage. “They also took away the footage recorded by the closed-circuit television cameras and the weapon of the security guard deputed at the bank.”
SEARCH OPERATION: Pakistan Rangers personnel launched a search operation in two government schools situated in Korangi on information that a huge cache of weapon had been dumped inside. During the five-hour operation, the surrounding areas were also cordoned off in Korangi No 2. Eyewitnesses said that the Rangers only searched the schools’ premises and did not search the residential areas.
