Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis’ presence in the UAE has not only come as a surprise but has raised many a brows over his resignation as chief coach of the national team.
It has been learnt that his differences with the then chairman Ijaz Butt over the possible sacking of his support staff was the main reason of his resignation.
Sources said that Ijaz Butt sacked Aaqib Javed and Ijaz Ahmed from his coaching team but Waqar wanted them. He was definitely ill but the ailment was not of serious nature.
On Tuesday, when Waqar was seen commenting on the Pakistan and Sri Lanka match, it came as a surprise.
Everyone considered his tiff with former captain Shahid Afridi during the West Indies series as the reason behind his resignation while his poor health was pronounced as the reason of his resignation. Now when he is commenting on the series in the UAE, things have started giving a clearer picture as to what happened behind the scene. No one in Pakistan cricket would deny the achievement Waqar has as a coach but now the support staff is back in the team management, the team is missing one of the best coaches it had in years.
