Leader of Balochistan National Party-Awami Mir Muhammad Ali Rind has won senate by-election by securing 27 votes beating the candidates of Jamiat-e-Ulema-Islam and Pakistan Muslim League-Q on Tuesday.
The polling started at 9am at Balochistan Assembly building and continued till 4pm without any break.
The seat fell vacant after the Balochistan High Court disqualified BNP-Awami leader Mir Muhammad Rind in August last for concealing information about his disqualification under NAB ordinance for his involvement in corruption when contesting the 2009 senate elections. Rind was disqualified from holding any public office for ten years. However, on the appeal of Rind, Supreme Court held Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) verdict of disqualifying him but also allowed him to contest the elections because of absence of NAB ordinance.
