Pakistan an important player in world peace: Albanian president

Albanian President Bamir Topi has reiterated his country’s unflinching support to Pakistan on all international forums by noting that Pakistan was playing the most crucial role for peace in the world.
He said this in his meeting with National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza, in Albanian Presidential Palace in Tirana, said a press note received here from Albania.
While talking to the speaker, Top praised Pakistan’s continued efforts for peace in South Asia, especially in Afghanistan.
He noted that the new democratic setup in Islamabad was a support to the emerging democracy in Kabul. He expressed Albania’s desire of peace in South Asia through a judicious resolution of all outstanding issues including Kashmir.
He noted that Pakistan and Albania had continued friendly relations since the 1960s.
He especially acknowledged Pakistan’s support to the issue of Kosovo at the UN, during the Balkan crisis in 1999.
He hoped that being an important member of the OIC, Pakistan would continue to lend support to this important matter.
Dr Fehmida conveyed good wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari to the Albanian president and praised his statesman role in Europe. She stressed the need of expanding the existing relations and taking them to people-to-people level.
While noting the progress of Albania, the speaker sought cooperation in areas like agriculture, agro-based industry, pharmaceuticals, textiles and other areas like education, research and development.
Dr Fehmida also informed the president about the proposal of setting up a Joint Parliamentary Commission and joint meetings of the Chambers of Commerce and Industries of the two nations.
The president strongly favored these proposals.
She requested Topi help expedite the stranded agreements on free trade, prevention of double tariff and trade agreement in pharmaceutical sector.
