Mystery surrounds PML-N’s rally

Mystery surrounds the proposed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rally in Lahore after the party rescheduled it from October 26 to October 28 to be taken out from Nasir Bagh to Punjab Assembly. It is still a riddle whether it will be part of the “Go Zardari Go movement”, “Pakistan Bachao Tehreek” or a protest rally.
Opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar called it “Go Zardari Movement”, while a text message circulated by the PML-N called it “Pakistan Bachao Tehreek”. However, Punjab government Spokesman Pervaiz Rashid called it “just a protest rally against power outages, power overpricing and corruption”.
The date has also been changed for a second time. First it was planned on October 23 but was deferred to October 26. On Tuesday, it was again put off to October 28 due to the traffic issue.
Party sources revealed that the reason behind the confused situation was a lack of preparedness. “The party leadership announced the rally in a hurry when it was overwhelmed with emotion. The party needed rigorous paper work and brainstorming to make the rally effective,” sources added.
A senior leader privy to development said that a debate had heated up within the party that it needed more time to prepare for the show. However, other party stalwarts felt that being a popular political party, the PML-N did not need any preparation and people will spill onto the roads to raise their voice against the PPP-led coalition government on their call.
When asked PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the date of the rally was changed on the advice of the local administration. He said, “We were asked to hold the rally on October 28 on Friday as traffic flow is less on Friday. We accepted the plea and rescheduled the date.”
