As Italian police use video footage and photos to identify violent protesters from Saturday’s clashes at an anti-capitalist march in Rome, one blog has begun advising militants on how to avoid arrest.
“If you think you are identifiable in any pictures or videos, don’t panic,” said the interactive blog published by the leftist Indymedia site.
“Published photos and videos are not necessarily proof. It’s not because police has some blurred photo or video taken from a distance in which you might be that the police knows who you are,” the blog said.
It also advised militants to get rid of clothing, baggage or helmets used in the clashes and to write nothing on social networks, as well as maybe getting a haircut, taking off piercings and hiding any distinctive signs.
“The good old ‘It wasn’t me’ works a lot better than you think,” it said.
Phone numbers for lawyers were also posted on the blog.
