Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Amir Senator Khurshid Ahmad on Monday expressed his serious concerns over the appointment of Admiral (r) Fasih Bokhari as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He said the important position had remained vacant for a long time and despite warnings from the Supreme Court and demands in the parliament and press, the government did not start consultations for the National Accountability Bureau chief’s appointment.
According to the NAB Ordinance, the chairman should be appointed after consultations with various political groups in the parliament. He said the way in which Bokhari was appointed NAB chief could only be described as a “dirty haste”, as the official notification was issued on a holiday and Bokhari was given the charge in midnight without even administering a formal oath. He said Bokhari had a good reputation, but the way he had been inducted into National Accountability Bureau had made the entire affair dubious.
