Hameed Akhtar’s funeral today


Renowned journalist and writer Hameed Akhtar’s funeral will be held today (Tuesday) at the Sector DD Mosque, Phase IV, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Lahore. Hameed, 87, was suffering from cancer and breathed his last at Shaukat Khanam Memorial Hospital. Before his death, he was working as a columnist with a local Urdu newspaper. According to his family, the funeral will be held as soon as Hameed’s son, who was settled in the US, returned home.
Hameed was born in Ludhiana, India and authored several books, including ‘Aashnayian Kia Kia’ and ‘Kal Kothri’. He wrote many other books and thousands of articles on national and international topics. His writings will continue to encourage progressive Pakistanis to fight against feudal lords, capitalism and imperialism. Hameed is survived by three daughters, including TV artist Saba Pervaiz, and a son. He was committed to socialism and an active member of the historical progressive caravan, which had members such as Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Sajjad Zaheer, Sibthe Hasan, Krishan Chandar, Bedi, Ahmed Rahi, CR Aslam, Minto and Lal Khan.
