Sunday bazaar: Prices stable… for the most part

LAHORE – The prices of most vegetables remained stable at Sunday bazaars while a small increase was witnessed in fruit prices.
In vegetables, the prices of ginger, spinach and cucumber decreased and while the prices of green chillies and onions increased. The price of potatoes and garlic remained unchanged. In fruits the prices of apples, bananas and pears remained stable while the prices of grapes increased and pomegranate decreased.
The price of ginger reduced Rs 10 per Kg and it was sold for Rs 75 per kg. The price of spinach reduced Rs 20 per kg and it was available for Rs 25 per kg. The price of cucumber reduced by Rs 5 per kg and its price was fixed at Rs 60 per kg.
The price of onion increased by Rs 4 per kg and it was sold for Rs 38 per kg.
The price of tomatoes and potatoes remained stable and they were available for Rs 60 and Rs 32 per kg respectively.
The price of grapes increased by Rs 20 per kg and it was sold for Rs 180 per kg. The price of apples and pears remained stable and it was sold for Rs 90 and Rs 55 per kg respectively.
The price of chicken increased by Rs 9 per kg and it was sold for Rs 160 per kg.
The number of customers remained moderate. Customers complained of overcharging by some shopkeepers. They said that as per routine some shopkeepers were selling B-grade products at the rate of A-grade products. “I bought onions for higher rates and when I asked the shopkeeper about the high price, he showed me the rate list,” said customer Jameel Ahmed, adding the same grade of vegetable was sold cheaper at other stalls. He said the Sunday bazaar administration should keep an eye on such shopkeepers.
