60-year-old Abdul Razzaq, who was brutally tortured by the former SHO Kot Lakhpat and his subordinates three days ago, succumbed to his injuries at General Hospital late on Sunday.
On the direction of Lahore Police officials, Kot Lakhpat police registered a case against former Kot Lakhpat SHO and 12 other officers for torturing Razzaq to death during a raid. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore suspended the aforesaid SHO, an ASI and four constables after they were judged guilty in an inquiry conducted by DSP Kahna against them.
The incident occurred three days ago, when Abdul Razzaq was home when Kot Lakhpat Police conducted a raid to arrest his son, Aurangzeb, accused of killing a woman passer-by woman while exchanging bullets with a rival Gujjar group over a minor issue. Kot Lakhpat Police registered a murder case against Aurangzeb on the complaint of deceased woman’s heirs but Aurangzeb managed to escape from the scene.
On October 13, Kot Lakhpat Police, under the supervision of Inspector Sana Ullah raided Aurangzeb’s house to arrest him. However, Aurangzeb was not home which angered Sana Ullah and his subordinates, who subjected Aurangzeb’s father Abdul Razzaq to severe torture to extract Aurangzeb’s whereabouts.
Razzaq went unconscious during the beating, after which Sana Ullah and his subordinates picked him up, threw him outside General Hospital and escaped. General Hospital doctors tried to save Abdul Razzaq but he passed away due to his injuries after which Kot Lakhpat police removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and started investigations.
After Razzaq’s death, the CCPO Lahroe Ahmed Raza Tahir suspended Inspector Sana Ullah, Assistant Sub-Inspector Asad Shahzad, constables Muhammad Kamran, Muhammad Shahid, Muhammad Yaseen and Muhammad Raffique. The CCPO also ordered a detailed inquiry in the matter.
Meanwhile, Kot Lakhpat Police registered a case against 13 cops, including Inspector Sana Ullah, ASI Asad Shahzad, Constable Jabbar and 10 unidentified cops on the complaint of deceased’s brother Zikriya for the murder Abdul Razzaq under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). However, Kot Lakhpat Police had not arrested any of the accused police officials till the filing of this report.
