Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif will visit Sindh on October 18 and some ‘big fish’, who were close allies of former ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, are expected to join his party’s ranks.
According to the schedule issued by the PML-N centre, Sharif will Naushehro Feroze and distribute relief goods among the rain- and flood-affected people in the area. Sharif will also visit Larkana and address a public gathering in Shahdadkot. Insiders told Pakistan Today that the PML-N has contacted politicians, who were allies of Musharraf in the province.
It contacted the Chandios of Kambar-Shahdadkot, and it is expected that former taluka nazim Kambar Sardar Khan Chandio or his brother Burhan Chandio might announce joining the PML-N. A sub-caste of the Chandio tribe, the Marfanis, might also join the party. The sources said that if the Nawab family of the Chandios joins the PML-N, the Marfanis will not do the same as per traditional norms.
Nawab Shabbir Ahmed Chandio, who was a close associate of slain Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto, left the PPP and was accommodated by Musharraf as Larkana was bifurcated and a new district named Kamabar-Shahdadkot was created. The nawab was appointed the nazim of the new district and his son Sardar Khan Chandio became the town nazim of Kambar tehsil.
In Dadu, former federal water and power minister Liaquat Jatoi, who recently tried to join the PPP but failed, is now trying to make his way into the PML-N. The sources said that Sharif might also visit Beto Jatoi, the native village of Liaquat Jatoi. Sharif would arrive on the day when the PPP would be observing the 4th anniversary of the twin blasts on the caravan of Benazir Bhutto at Karsaz.
Taking this opportunity, he might speak about the PPP government’s failure to conduct a proper probe into the attack and take action against its perpetrators.
