The government has decided to appoint Admiral (r) Fasih Bukhari the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and a notification to this effect will be issued within a few days, despite the hue and cry raised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). A source close to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said the decision to appoint Admiral (r) Bukhari had already been made.
“The notification of NAB chairman’s appointment will be issued soon,” he said. Asked if meaningful consultation with Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had taken place, the source said, “Meaningful consultation does not mean evolving a consensus … as far as consultation is concerned, it has taken place.” He said the PML-N seemed to have decided to oppose and reject every decision of the government.
“Instead of responding to the prime minister, the leader of opposition chose to speak through the media by releasing his letter,” the source said, adding that the government had to go ahead with the appointment of the NAB chairman despite the PML-N’s negativity.

  1. Consultation should be meaningful. Consensus is desirable. But the Constitution does not demand acceptance of dictation by Leader of the Opposition. When Fasih Bukhari's name came up, first reaction from PMNL-N was that he was involved in Augusta scandal. Then they came to know that in fact he was the person who took action against those involved in Augusta scandal. This clearly exposes the mindset of Nawaz Sharif and his cronies. They do not look at things in a positive manner. Their only objective is to create problems for the government so that it cannot attend to real issues facing the nation and spends most of the time clearing hurdles created by Sharifs. The tragedy is that Chief Justice of Pakistan works in close liaison with them which compounds all problems.

  2. this is very good that govt has decided to appoint a very honest and upright man for the post of NAB Chairman. even the opposition leader ch. nisar did not question the elibility and integrity of Admiral (R) Fasih Bukhari, the nominee. it is hoped that he will run NAB in the manner as aspired by the people of Pakistan
