Training moot for orthopaedics opens

In order to improve orthopaedic services in hospitals, Pakistan Orthopaedic Society held the “International Pak ORTHOCON 2011 Silver Jubilee Conference” here on Friday. Eminent Orthopaedic surgeons from different parts of the country and abroad are participating in the various sessions of the conference themed “Training for All”.
The mega event is being jointly organised by the Lieutenant General (r) M Rehan Burney, the HI (M) surgeon general of the Pakistan Armed Forces, POS and other departments in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Burney appreciated the contributions of orthopaedic surgeons in the country and hoped the conference would provide an opportunity to experts as well as young surgeons to share their knowledge and experiences and learn latest techniques and procedures for treatment.
He also expressed his concerns over the brain-drain from Pakistan and asked medical professionals to serve in Pakistan. The conference will comprise fourteen scientific sessions, where International experts will share their experiences through a series of lectures. The chairman of the organizing committee, Dr Khalid Aslam, said that the wonderful opportunity would enable Pakistani orthopaedics to improve their technical skills and that the efforts had been made to make the event a professionally rewarding experience for the participants. Professor Brig.Sohail Hafeez while giving outline of scientific programme informed that as many as 150 participants had already been trained in the pre-conference workshops conduced in different hospitals of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
