The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a petition on Friday against the “illegal” construction of bunkers by the US embassy in a warehouse situated in the industrial area of the federal capital.
Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan conducted the hearing of the case against allegedly illegal construction on the plot#281, 282 and 283 of Sector-I/9-3 by the US embassy. Syed Muhammad Tayyab appeared before the court to represent petitioner named Muhammad Iqbal.
The petitioner contended that according to some media reports, bunkers were being built at the said plots illegally and that showed the negligence of the government of Pakistan, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Mehboob Elahi, the resident living on the plot# 281.
He maintained that the matter was concerning Pakistan’s national interest, dignity of nation and sovereignty. He stated that the CDA had sealed the said plots after reports of construction there without the approval of the authority. The counsel for the petitioner said the CDA had miserably failed to take action against all the respondents. He also said that according to some media reports the US embassy was trying to get the plots in question declared as its property.
Judge Riaz Ahmad, however, rejected the petition citing lack of evidence regarding construction of illegal bunkers on the said plots. He also observed that neither the petitioner nor his counsel was affected from the construction work, if there was any.
