ISLAMABAD – Warning the nation that the shortage of gas would get severe this winter, the government on Friday announced a reduction in the load shedding hours of compressed natural gas (CNG). Talking to reporters on the sideline of Attock Refinery employees’ function, Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain said CNG load shedding would now be carried out for two days a week instead of three.
He said the government was in contact with transporters over the issue. The minister said there would be acute shortage of gas in January and measures were being taken to overcome the impending situation. The gas shortfall which was estimated 1 bcfd in summer this year is expected to rise to 2 bcfd during the winter season.
To a question, he expressed hope that the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project would be completed within due time.
