LAHORE – Despite desperate measures, the dengue virus continues claiming lives and infecting people, as another seven succumbed to the deadly fever in Lahore on Friday. More than 400 patients were diagnosed positive for dengue fever in various hospitals of Lahore. The government has prepared a 16-page syllabus booklet regarding awareness about prevention and treatment of dengue fever, while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated a 20-vehicle dengue brigade that would work for eradication of dengue mosquitoes in the city.
A research wing in the Punjab Health Department has also been proposed in a meeting under the CM for studying the prioritised issues, including the dengue epidemic. According to details, three persons lost their lives in Services Hospital, while one each died at Ganga Ram Hospital, Mayo Hospital and Combined Military Hospital. In a briefing, the Punjab Health Department also confirmed seven deaths due to dengue, raising the official death toll to 224, of which 200 people died in Lahore.
